The Taxifast training school is headed up by a dedicated training officer. The purpose of the school is to produce a professional driver who can meet the criteria set by Taxifast.
There are tests and qualifications to be passed and achieved so as to become a licensed taxi driver.
The Taxifast curriculum includes the following processes,
A Criminal Record Check.
This is undertaken by Taxifast and Plymouth City Council. This is a legal requirement for entry into the taxi industry.
A Medical:
Applicants have to undergo a medical examination and receive a doctors certificate of fitness. Many conditions are exempt. Disabled applicants are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge Test:
Plymouth City Council require an applicant to pass a knowledge test. This test is comprehensive and consists of knowledge of various venues, route descriptions along with customer care questions.
Driving Test:
An applicant must have held a UK or EU full driving licence for 1 year. Plymouth City Council put applicants through a further driving ability test which is carried out on their behalf by Plymouth City Bus. This test will contain route knowledge and driving ability.
First Aid Training:
Taxifast teach and administer first aid training in its own right. All applicants will undergo first aid training and when qualified will be issued with the appropriate first aid certificate.
Welcome Host:
Taxifast teach and qualify applicants participating in the Welcome Host accreditation scheme. Essentially this qualification is about making an applicant an Ambassador for Taxifast and Plymouth.
The Taxifast training school educates applicants to become highly professional taxi drivers in Plymouth. Joining a team of well accepted professional drivers in the Plymouth area. Taxifast is a BTEC educational centre and qualified to teach to a VRQ (NVQ2) level. Plymouth City Council is in the last stages of its consultation process before bringing in new test procedures that will include the Taxifast process as a condition of obtaining a taxi driver licence.
